What does it mean to email Queue?

It means you can add entries to Data Stores using email. For instance, if you have a Data Store named foo you can add to foo my sending an email to foo@irondust.com. The email can have attachments and those will be stored as a link.

How is this useful?

One way this can be useful is if you are sending a mail to someone or a group of people you can cc: a Queue Data Store so the message will be available later.

Note that you must send the email from your Queue account email so Queue knows which user account to associate the entry with. Go here (requires login) to set your email address. If you are on the road or otherwise not able to send from your normal email address, just quickly change it to where you are writing from, send the email, wait a couple of minutes for it to arrive, and then you can change it back.

How do I email Queue?

To add to a Data Store using email, you must subscribe to Queue. More information on this is available here (requires login) . Once you have a subscription, you can add to Queue simply by sending an email to <data_store_name>@irondust.com where <data_store_name> should be replaced with the name of the Data Store you want to add to. Since Data Store names are allowed to contain a more varied set of characters than email addresses, there are a few caveats that you should be aware of. If your Data Store name contains a space or an apostrophe you should enclose the name in double quotes:

"Edward's Journal"@irondust.com

Alternatively, you can avoid the double quotes and replace the spaces with plus signs (+) as long as the Data Store name does not contain any apostrophes. Since plus signs are not allowed in Data Store names, Queue will replace all pluses with spaces. For example, you cannot email Edward's Journal without double quotes because it contains an apostrophe, however, you can email the My Stuff Data Store at this address:

My+Stuff@irondust.com

Capitalization is not important.

If your Data Store name contains an @ then you will have to be tricky. Replace the @ with a #. So, for instance, if you have a Data Store named Edward@work you could email it at:

Edward#work@irondust.com

Your email client should accept all of these email addresses as valid. If you have any trouble, please send an email to the address shown below -- maybe it can be fixed.

Thank you.
